NPL FAiled congress!!!

It is no longer news that the NPL congress has come and gone but what is however new is that the status remains as predicted. The little "argument" was just on the issue of "Globacom" money that the club "chairmen" wanted to be increased to N15 million, which the NPL board is not favorably disposed to, although according to the report, a committee has been set up to look into that. But the questions are that how many years will Nigerian football clubs will be “under" the board? i have since believed that one and major objective of a football league competition is to "raise" financially viable football clubs which in turn will impact positively on the economy. Many of our club "chairmen" are just so myopic to know that if they can deal with the fundamental issues they can "raise" much more than N15 million in a season, on shit sponsorship, stadium branding, and all other stuffs. The fundamental issues I had expected the "club chairmen" to raise in the meeting are (1) The issue of Globacom "title" sponsorship (2) The TV right Globacom "title" sponsorship: - As the Nigerian league is being called, i want to believe that there are certain rights that Globacom enjoys as a "title" sponsor of the league, i am not a lawyer though, but i think the club should be at liberty to source for their own sponsor including any other telecommunication firms. I have a case study in Ghana premier league, where recently Globacom is their "title" sponsor and there are some clubs that had "TIGO" (another telecommunication firm) as their shirt sponsor and also MTN too. I stand to be corrected on this). I kept asking myself questions why can’t we get it right here in Nigeria? The clubs deserve the best of treatment, NPL and Globacom should not be treating the clubs this way, to me it seems as if the clubs are in a fix. All hope is not lost i still believe the "real" stakeholder can take this issue up, and demand to know what is in the Globacom contractual papers they signed with NPL, and from there we will be able to move forward. To me the clubs must be at liberty to source for "any" sponsor or rather investor as they deem fit. The TV right: - Many Club chairmen do not know what is in the book for them as regards the TV right and that is why one wouldn’t blame them much when they refuse TV crew from showing their matches and for those that knows they should be able to prevail on NPL to come out and tell them how much they make or how much is going to the clubs as regards TV right issues. Some club chairmen are just not fit to be in the position they are occupying, it is here in Nigeria that a club "refuse" TV crew from showing their matches, and the club chairman will still come to defend it and say ....because Television will "unsettled" his players that why they refuse TV crew......., and it is this same misfit people we will see in NFF and NPL boards, and how are we going to move forward in this. That is why we lack visionary leaders that can lead us to the "promise land". I belong to the so called jet-age generation, and i want to say boldly that our fathers have failed us in all ramisification, imagine the problem we went through when we want to host Nigeria 99 is the same problem we are going through now 10 years later. Our grandparent ( Awolowo, Azikwe, et al) give free education and what our father giving us?.. ASUU strike. I hope you will forgive me for digressing a little bit from the subject matter. I believe Nigerian football league is a veritable "product" to sell, and a product that is capable of employing noting less than 40% of jobless youth, and also capable of bringing in foreign direct investment to Nigeria and more importantly projecting our imagine positively across the whole world. Government must not toy with this. Let those that hear say...I hear... God help us.

OUR LEAGUE IS RANKED NO 21 IN THE WORLD

I am happy that Nigeria premier league is ranked number 21 in the world and number 1 in Africa that is great news courtesy of the performances of our respective teams that is campaigning in the continent. Kudos to organizers of the premier league .But the only sad news is that our clubs are yet to be run professional, they are still state governments pet projects which in turns are their political tools. I strongly believed that if our various club can be run professionaly and be more business like the sky will be our limit

To my guys and Chimosky

Chimosky, I appreciate your piece. It's time for the government of the state to encourage people with the business sense to pick up the responsibility of running and financing the club. This club by the way is not a bad product, it only need some polishing for it to be world class. Look at the just concluded Federation Cup final, 70 to 75 percent at the stadium that day were there because of Enyimba. Chelsea have not won anything of note before Abrahamovic came. His arrival (with the right coach) turned the club into a world class brand that even Agberos in Nigeria now support (or where did you think the name "Sepe" came from?). What many do not also realize is that the time to invest is now (In the season of success). If Enyimba is financed to the point where we feature in the Federation cup final every year, be the top two teams in the NPL every year which will make us be in the African Champions league consistently, then we can expect "serious" sponsorship from inside outside Nigeria. The JOMA deal is as a result of our past records. Imagine how it'll be if we are consistent. By the way Chimosky, I think you should start changing your mind about to whom Enyimba belongs; To Abians? Yes! To "Abans"? Yes! To Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas, Efik, Ibibios, Fulanis, Itshekiris etc? Yes!!! Enyimba to me, transcends any ethnic or racial boundaries because they play football. Ask Livingman, ask Zoom zoom, ask Fembaba or ask me Lolade. We're a mixture of people with one goal "Get Enyimba to the Top".

thats reaasonable,but

i believe there are plans on ground to give the stadium in aba a new look(pitch inclusive),but these are projects you need to embark onif you have enough time.we cant afford to play our home matches away from home, considering what we suffered from last season's banishment.to change the turf, you need at least 6 weeks.when is the league starting?can the club afford that fembaba?then, sacrifice results for nice looking pitch?i dont think so.i believe the management must have their reasons for not dancing to the tune of artificial pitch.it is really beautiful and gives room for good soccer, but we must put into consideration the financial challenges of playing away from home(very important).there is time for everything;time to lay artificial turf, time to travel for overseas tours and time to recruit good players.lets allow the management to do their job, while we cheer the team to victory as the occassion warrants.one day we would be proud to have all the modern facilities in the stadium.and who said we cant build an entirely new stadium? just watch out fembaba.meanwhile, where have you been all this while before the victory on sunday? need your sincere answer pls....up enyi! up aba!

Guys lets talk

We now have the cup but I think we should pay attention to what Fembaba and chyco mentioned. Enyimba needs an artificial pitch and the website should be updated quickly. We even don dey talk that one for long and nothing has changed. As for the pitch my question is, WHAT CAN WE DO TO DRIVE AND MOVE OUR CLUB INTO GETTING ONE FOR THE ABA STADIUM? Fembaba once suggested that an artificial pitch of reasonable quality can be installed with around 7 to 8 million naira (if I'm quoting him right). Such an amount is not too much for a club of our class. Guys, any ideas? Livingman you dey around there, what do you say? I saw a nice game played on smooth pitch which has never been the hallmark of the Nigerian league (except for the Sharks stadium).

Congrats!!

Congratulations to Enyimba, i'm so proud of you guys, the players, coaches, and the entire management, the Government of Abia state, it shows you guys are the best well managed team in Nigeria football. We could see virtually everywhere men women, guys ladies clad in Enyimba jerseys, and its really gladen my heart, how i wish i cld been able to watch the match from beginning to the end, i only watch 10min of the match and even i didnt get to see the cup presentation. But to be candid kudus must go to Lagos state governement for that wonderful Teslim balogun stadium, i love the pitch, infact to me is far far better than the Abuja national stadium pitch, all y'all can see it, nd who said a "good" artificial pitch as not come to stay in, (Even Sepp Blater said it tat thats it the future of football), and i guess this is a lesson for Enyimba, its an opportunity for the management to put it on the Governor's table and i know he'll do justice to that i believe that. Everybody that saw that pitch yesterday love it ( abi i lie), i really want to see much more Enterprising Enyimba, playing good football free flowing football, even the player themselves will attest to this that they relly enjoy themselves on tat pitch yesterdy.... Long live Enyimba Long live Nigerian league Long live Nigeria Nigeria Good people great Nation..

This for my friends. You've all got guts

This Message encapsulates my last message "I duff my heart for all you guys. You've got guts". I salute the Nigerian who still have enough guts to love our local league. I salute the Nigerian who looks out for clubs like Sharks, Enyimba, Shooting or even Stores. I salute the Nigerian who slips on a supporter's shirt of a local team. Millions of other Nigerians will tell us we're fools, but they don't see what we see. I salute the Nigerian for loving and supporting a game affected and bedevilled by corruption (a la Kaduna utd 9-0 win). I salute the Nigerian for staying faithful despite the NFF's or NPL's inept attitude towards the game we all love. I salute Livingman; Fembaba; Unique; I salute every forum member.
