Fans of Enyimba had something of their own to cheer about on Wednesday as they gathered in droves to celebrate the club's league triumph.

The fans were ecstatic as they celebrated the record making Enyimba players who made history as the first Nigerian clubside to win the re-christened Nigeria Premier League for the sixth time.

Inside the Enyimba stadium, thousands of fans sang, clapped and danced as the Elephants defeated Kano Pillars 2-1 in the last league game of the 2009/2010 league season to emerge Nigerian champions.

Excited fans gathered during the presentation ceremony to catch a glimpse of the beautiful trophy and screamed with delight as it was held aloof by Enyimba players and officials.

According to some fans who spoke to EnyimbaFC.net, it was a league win they had eagerly waited for since 2007.

Daddy Onuoha, a banker said "Thank God Enyimba has been crowned league champions, if not it would have been a double jeopardy, first Super Eagles and now our very own Enyimba. We are happy! Up Enyimba!"

In the words of Ogoke Nnamdi, "Super Eagles could spoil peoples' fun but for me, Enyimba runs in my blood and now I have reaped the dividends of my loyalty with this sixth league win."

Uzodike Nnaji declared "All I need is a winning team and Enyimba has given me that consistently so up Enyimba, Enyimba for life!"
