Enyimba 2-1 Adamawa United: Elephants bag the win against determined strugglers
Victor Mbaoma scored for the third consecutive game as Enyimba overcame Adamawa United 2-1 at the Enyimba Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Mbaoma tapped in from close range to give the hosts a first half lead, and despite Anayo Ogbonna’s equaliser, Farouk Mohammed won it for The People’s Elephants when he converted from the spot.
Starting his third on the bounce, Mbaoma could have opened the scoring in the fifteenth minute when Samad Kadiri played him through with a delightful ball but the forward was in a rush to shoot wide. Mbaoma then headed in Reuben Bala’s freekick only to be caught in an offside position.
Goalkeeper Friday Achimugu produced top saves to prevent Mbaoma on two occasions before the finally came out on top to open the scoring with a simple tap from Kadiri’s pass.
Kadiri freed himself in the box and could have doubled the lead before the break but failed to keep his cool in the box.
The game, however took a different turn in the second half when Ogbonna benefitted from Felix Kenan’s incursion to draw the visitors level.
Parity listed only seven minutes, though, as Farouk Mohammed netted Enyimba’s winner from the spot after Victor Mbaoma was felled in the box with less than quarter of an hour left.
Enyimba are now sixth on the standings with 41 points from 23 matches and would be looking to improve their place with a trip to Katsina United on Sunday.
