Enyimba trump Gombe United in ruthless rush
Enyimba Football Club delivered another attacking masterclass to dispose of Gombe United at the Enyimba Stadium on Saturday.
What was expected to be a close fight – going by Gombe United’s performances this season – turned out to be a game completely decided before the break as Finidi George’s marauders netted three before half-hour.
Victor Mbaoma and Emeka Obioma made attempts as Enyimba drew out all swords from the kickoff, before the latter opened the account in the sixth minute with a low drive after Philip Ozor’s ball was diverted to his side.
One became two term minutes later as Mbaoma finished off a quick interplay with Obioma to land his eleventh of the campaign and thirteenth in all competitions.
The visitors’ goal was pierced again when Cyril Olisema intercepted a back pass to make it three. It was the midfielder’s first goal since his CAF Confederation Cup winner against Diambars FC in October.
The hosts looked content thereafter and hardly left first gear in the second half. Their biggest chance came towards the end as Mbaoma missed from close range after the keeper had redirected Austin Oladapo’s strike his way.
