Enyimba bow out of CAF Champions League
Enyimba FC exited the CAF Champions League following a goalless draw against Al Ahli Benghazi at the Enyimba Stadium on Sunday.
After a 3-4 first leg loss a week prior, a 1-0 win would have lifted the People’s Elephant over the Libyan hurdle, but the Nigerian Champions were left to rue missed chances and some obstinate defending by the visitors.
Joseph Atule’s shot on the turn went straight at the keeper while Murphy Ndukwu and Chijioke Mbaoma struck the side-netting as Enyimba overwhelmed the visitors with an all-attacking approach.
Olorunleke Ojo was called into a crucial save in the second half but the Nigerian Champions never ceased to bombard their opponents with series of attacks, with Eze Ekwutoziam and substitute George Owen coming particularly close; but Ahly held on to make the best of their first leg advantage and progress to the next round of the competition.
