Eze relishes captaincy in Enyimba’s hunt for NPFL glory
Defender Pascal Eze says ‘it’s an honour’ to be appointed captain of Enyimba, which he described as a ‘historical team’ in Africa.
The 25-year-old former Heartland and Kwara United centre-back takes over the armband from Somiari Alalibo, who left the club at the end of last season.
Eze joins a prestigious pool of former captains of the 2-time African champions, which include Obinna Nwaneri, Romanus Orjinta (of blessed memory), Austin Oladapo, Ojo Olorunleke, to mention but a few.
“I feel good, I feel great,” Eze said about how he feels being named Enyimba captain. “To me, it’s an honour as a player to be the captain of one of the best teams in Nigeria.
“Enyimba are a historical team in Nigeria, in Africa and generally.”
The People’s Elephant started the new season with an inspiring goalless draw against newly-promoted Barau FC in Kano last weekend.
On what to expect from his side this season, Eze re-echoed Head Coach Stanley Eguma’s target, stating that the record NPFL champions are gunning for the league title or at least a continental ticket.
“Enyimba are always hungry for trophies, and winning has been the tradition at the club,” he noted.
“We had a good pre-season, and we have our target set for us. We are gunning for the trophy, and nothing short of a continental ticket.
“It’s a promise to our fans, who are aware that Enyimba are known as a top team in the league.”
Eguma’s side face Niger Tornadoes in Aba on Sunday in a Match Day 2 encounter.
