‘I joined Enyimba to win trophies’ – Chinedu Ufere

Midfieder Ufere Chinedu has disclosed he joined record 9-time Nigeria Premier Football League champions Enyimba with the aim of winning trophies, despite a barren 2024/25 campaign.

The People’s Elephant endured a trophyless campaign last term across all competitions in Chindeu’s first season at the club. A sixth place finish in the NPFL and a Round of 16 exit from the President Federation Cup, followed a group phase exit from the CAF Confederation Cup.

Such performances are below Enyimba’s high standards, and the 24-year-old former Kwara United and Lobi Stars player has told EnyimbaFC.net the 2-time African champions are poised to correct that impression in the upcoming season.

“Enyimba are the biggest team in Nigeria and West Africa at large,” he stated. “The records are there”.

“I came here last season to win trophies, to play in the continent, but it’s quite unfortunate we didn’t end well last season. We had our challenges, football happened, and we finished sixth in the log. That was neither our plan nor aim.

“I came to Enyimba to win trophies, to contribute to the team, because Enyimba are a trophy-winning team. If they don’t win a trophy, they are always on the continent. So, I’m here to play on the continent and to always win the NPFL.

“We didn’t achieve that in my first season, and I believe, this second season, we’re going to achieve that, because we will not stop until we get there. This is what Enyimba stands for.”

Easily Nigeria’s most successful club, Enyimba’s trophy cabinet boasts of two CAF Champions League and CAF Super Cup titles – the first and only team in the country to achieve such a feat.

The People’s Elephant have won a record nine league titles and 4 Federation Cups, amongst other trophies.
