Kanu Champions Charity as Enyimba Foundation Extends Love to Sick & Motherless Babies
In a heartwarming display of compassion and social responsibility, the Enyimba Foundation once again demonstrated its commitment to giving back to society. The club’s charitable arm paid a touching visit to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital and the Motherless Babies Home in Aba, bringing smiles, prayers, and much-needed relief to the less privileged.
The initiative, which has become an annual tradition since its inception last season, saw the Enyimba Foundation donate essential items and Cash to hospital patients and children in need, reinforcing the belief that football transcends the pitch—it is also about humanity, love, and community service.
Speaking on the significance of the outreach, Kanu, a FIFA ambassador and the driving force behind both the Kanu Heart Foundation and Enyimba Foundation, emphasized the club’s commitment to uplifting lives beyond football.
“It’s all about Enyimba Foundation. Last season, during December, we went to the hospital and celebrated with the patients. Last Easter, we held a get-together with some motherless babies’ homes. This year, again, we are here to visit the hospital and celebrate with them. Enyimba Foundation is here to serve the community, and that’s what we are doing. We pray for them, and they in turn pray for us,” Kanu told Enyimba Media.
His noble gesture has drawn praise from across the football fraternity, with Sporting Director Ifeanyi Ekwueme echoing the importance of football clubs playing a role in shaping society.
“It’s good to be kind because in the game of football, it’s not just all about playing on the pitch but also about your relationship with people and how you impact the needy,” Ekwueme said. “This is the third edition, and some thought it would collapse after the first round, but it’s just like the Kanu Heart Foundation—it has come to stay. We urge other clubs to emulate this wonderful idea and give back to society.”
Adding to the chorus of praise was former Super Eagles stalwart and Enyimba FC board member Uche Okechukwu, fondly known as the “Gentle Giant.” He expressed his delight at seeing the initiative flourish.
“I’m happy to be here again, where it all started. We were here last year, and it’s all about giving them a sense of belonging. I’m excited that we are committed to continuing this good work,” Okechukwu said.
The impact of Enyimba Foundation’s generosity was evident in the gratitude expressed by hospital officials and caregivers at the motherless babies’ home. Dr. Chinonyerem Ohuka, Chief Medical Director, and Mrs. Angela Ndubuisi, Director of Nursing, alongside young Master Praise, conveyed their heartfelt appreciation to Kanu and his team, praying for divine blessings upon their endeavors.
With key figures in Enyimba’s management, including Chief of Staff Sam Anozie, Team Manager Prince Okey Nwabeke (KSC), and club legend Obinna Nwaneri in attendance, the event further cemented the club’s reputation as more than just a football powerhouse—it is a force for good in the society.
Kanu’s legacy as a football legend is well documented, but his dedication to humanitarian causes continues to set him apart. Through the Enyimba Foundation, he is proving that true greatness lies not just in trophies and accolades but in touching lives and making a difference where it matters most.
