Match report: Kwara United 1-0 Enyimba
Alao Danbani’s first half header gave Kwara United the edge as Enyimba lost by a lone goal in Ilorin on Wednesday evening.
A strong start from Enyimba which saw Sadiq Abubakar and Victor Mbaoma produce good moments in the box indicated intent from Finidi George’s men, but Kwara soon neutralised that firepower with their aggressive pressing style.
In a switch of momentum, Kwara United began to look threatening with Isaiah Ejeh and Kabiru Balogun coming close.
The hosts took the lead in the seventeenth minute when Danbani headed in a rebound after Samad Kadiri’s effort was pushed against the bar by Olorunleke Ojo.
Enyimba’s immediate response saw Victor Mbaoma hit a tame effort on the turn before Fatai Abdullahi’s volley flew just over the top.
Emeka Obioma’s introduction at the restart fired up Enyimba’s attack, with the forward drawing an effort from the box before powering past his markers to shoot across the face of goal.
The People’s Elephant, however, came closest right before the hour mark when Sadiq Abubakar’s strike bounced off the crossbar.
Olorunleke Ojo came up with a trio of saves, at the other end of the pitch, to prevent Kadiri from registering, and rushed off his line in time to intercept Danbani who appeared to have been through on goal again.
