Enyimba held by MFM in one-sided contest

Enyimba could not get a good outcome for a dominant and spirited performance as it ended 1-1 against MFM FC at the Enyimba Stadium on Saturday evening.

Despite taking an early lead, the People’s Elephant once again failed to win at home as the struggle to establish consistency continued.

Victor Mbaoma scored his third league goal after five minutes when he benefitted from Obioma’s beautiful set-up to poke into the far post.

It was a goal that showcased the overall quality of the Finidi George’s side, even in their transitional play, but the joy of it was short-lived as Chukwudi Ekeocha ran into space before playing through the legs of the onrushing Olorunleke Ojo for MFM’s equaliser five minutes later.

It was an all-Enyimba affair afterwards and the visitors, pinned to their box, barely had a sniff of the ball.

Emeka Obioma’s volley struck the crossbar before another acrobatic effort from the big forward flew just over the top.

Enyimba were again denied by the frame when Mbaoma’s header came off the base of the post.

Ekene Awazie volleyed over from five yards after the interval and Mbaoma called on the keeper with a diving header.

Pascal Eze continued to impress on his full debut and came within inches of getting his first goal as his ball went just wide following a determined set-up by Mbaoma.

Substitute Godwin Emmanuel could have claimed a late winner for the second time this season, but his close-range header was redirected onto the bar by the goalkeeper.
