‘MORE IS COMING’ — UFERE OPENS HIS ACCOUNT AS ENYIMBA SWEEP PAST SHOOTING STARS

Midfielder Chinedu Ufere has promised that “more is coming” after opening his goal account for the season in Enyimba’s emphatic 3–0 victory over Shooting Stars Sports Club in Aba on Sunday.

The People’s Elephant produced a dominant display to close the first stanza of the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign on a high note, with the 22-year-old setting the tone early in the contest.

Ufere broke the deadlock in the 16th minute with a superb first-time volley, calmly dispatching the ball after being left unmarked by a pinpoint delivery from Kalu Nweke.

The goal ignited a confident Enyimba performance, as the hosts controlled proceedings for much of the encounter.

Late goals from substitute Ezekiel Edidiong and striker Chidera Michael capped an impressive evening for the nine-time league champions, sealing a well-deserved win against a resilient Shooting Stars side.

Speaking after the match, Ufere praised the team’s performance and expressed optimism about further improvement under the new coaching philosophy.

“It was a nice game for us,” he said. “We are really grateful for the goals and the way we played.

“We are adapting to the way the new coach wants us to play. Today, you can see that we played very well and we deserved the victory. Thank God we created chances and took them.”

The attacking midfielder, who joined Enyimba from Sporting Lagos, added that the result was the perfect way to end the year.

“We think this is just the beginning. We’re really happy to end the year with a victory against a very solid team.

“Kudos to them; they played very well. It was a fantastic game, and we’re extremely happy to get the maximum points.”

Reflecting on his goal — his first of the season — the former Kwara United, Niger Tornadoes and Lobi Stars player expressed confidence that more goals will follow.

“I really did my best. The opportunity came and I took my chance with the volley,” Ufere said. “I’m happy it resulted in a goal — my first of the season — and I know more is coming by the grace of God.”

The victory moves Enyimba up to eighth position on the NPFL table with 26 points from 19 matches, leaving the 2-time African champions just six points off the top three as attention now turns to the second half of the season.
