Oladapo Excited To Open Goal Account
Austin Oladapo has expressed excitement after scoring his first goal for Enyimba after 7 months in Saturday’s 2-1 win against Katsina United.
The former Gombe United and FC Ifeanyi Uba midfielder, who recently returned from a 6-month ban, netted the opener as the People’s Elephants secured a 2-1 win against the Changi Boys in a Nigeria Professional Football League fixture in Aba.
“I feel very great, I must give thanks to God,” he told www.enyimbafc.net. “It’s not easy staying away from football for the past six months. And God has really helped me.
“I’m happy to be back, and I am contributing to the team.
“It’s a great one for me. I feel very happy, and may the glory be unto God.”
The win against Katsina United moved Enyimba to 4th on the NPFL standings, with 16 points from 9 matches, 3 points behind leaders Rivers United (19pts).
However, Oladapo insists the record 8-time NPFL champions are firmly focused on claiming the title this season, but admitted it won’t come on a platter.
“Our target is to win the league, we are not there for Top 3, we are there to win the league,” the 26-year-old former Gombe United star said.
“The league is still very fresh. We’ll keep working hard to see how we can bridge the gap and get to the position where we belong – which is the first position.
“I know it’s not going to be an easy season. You can see every team is doing very well both home and away. I think we have to tighten our belt to make sure that we start winning games away from home.
“I think that will help us once we start winning games away from home, and we are working very hard to achieve that.”
