Rangers 0-1 Enyimba: Obioma scores late to sustain perfect start
Enyimba Football Club preserved their flawless start under Finidi George with a 1-0 win against Rangers International at the FC Ifeanyi Uba Stadium on Sunday evening.
Emeka Obioma left the bench to smash in the winner in a game full of action but eventually decided in the closing stages.
Shining youngster Eze Ezekwutoziam was handed a start on his debut and could have made it most memorable when he pounced on a loose ball in the opening minutes, but failed to make the best of a good chance.
Victor Mbaoma skipped past the goalkeeper but hastily hit a tame strike across the face of the goal, while Ekene Awaziem also came close as Enyimba controlled the half.
The hosts had chances of their own, Chidiebere Nwobodo shooting straight at Olorunleke Ojo before Ernest Governor headed wide from Tope Olusesi’s freekick.
Adekunle Adekele looked to have set up the opener when he dribbled from his half to release Ekwutoziam, but the debutante shot over from close range; while Mbaoma again came close when he headed Johnson Umah’s precise wide.
With the closing stages approaching, Rangers raised their tempo and enjoyed a good spell, Nwobodo and Governor striking against the crossbar.
But it was at the other end that the decider came, Emeka Obioma getting on the end of Philip Ozor’s pass and slotting into the far post to seal a significant win for the People’s Elephant.

Good one from Enyimba FC. Keep the tempo high. I am so much delighted with the level of improvement since Coach Finidi took over of the squad. However, I am disappointed that we have no channel to watch the match and other previous Enyimba FC matches. The management of EnyimbaFC should look for a way to build a digital tv where your global Fans can subscribe, and view your matches live. Good Job guys!
