Vs Ikorodu FC: what could be up Eguma’s sleeve?

This weekend, we head to Lagos for an important game against new NPFL side, Ikorodu City. With three wins on the road this season already and 13 points in total, we are in a good place to get a win away from home, especially in Lagos where we also have a good number of our fans.

Since Eguma arrived, we have seen different patterns according to the opponents and the availability of players, like Innocent Gabriel playing in midfield and Chinedu Ufere playing as a right back. This time round, we can do something different in order to get a good result on Sunday.

Having seen Eguma’s flexibility and what he has been able to do so far and how he has changed systems mid game and the players adapted, it will be interesting to see what he has up his sleeves. Let us guess. What if he chooses to go with a 3-4-3 formation or a 3-5-2, what would it look like?

He will have mobile wing backs, 3 centre backs to assure us in defense and possibly two or three forwards.

The new NPFL boys have young players who are in form and coming from a win against Lobi in Enugu, they may fancy their chances of getting something good in their biggest game so far.

How may a three-man defense help us? It helps us keep it clean at the back and ward off the opponents’ attacks, with one defender on standby as an extra leg. With Afolayan Peter’s return, Eguma may pair him with Pascal Eze and Chikamso Okechukwu and he gives assistance to Solomon Onome or Imoh Obot at left back, being a left footed centre back while Chikamso can also provide cover for Obichere.

Playing with a back three allows us to have wing-backs who can support the attack to give more numbers when we are attacking and give us a chance of getting five defenders when defending and this will help to keep Ikorodu’s pacy wingers like Shola Adelani at bay.

With a 3-4-3 formation, we can be flexible and have a packed midfield, a potential five-man attack and a five-man defense according to team shape.

Hopefully, Isah Mohammed’s knock is not serious and Ufere Chinedu, and other midfielders will be fit. Quadri Odusokanmi will be an asset too with his tireless marking and Gozie Umeh can come in too. Eguma will have to find who fits in best.

Whatever the case, it is a game that is open for taking and the Elephants should not fear to face the new boys in the league. Lagos has always been a fertile ground for us and we have a chance on Sunday to continue a good run of historic victories in Lagos.

Eguma’s flexibility is not in doubt and we trust he will use the best system which suits the team and the game. Whatever the case, we the fans are looking forward to victory in Lagos.
