A Look at our thrilling memories from Lagos
As the important match against Ikorodu City in Lagos draws near, more fans continue to develop keen interest in the game and believe strongly this is a game we can win. We have had success stories in Lagos, a City where we have won trophies. Let us look at these success stories.
In 2001, we won the 2000/2001 league title after the Super Four in Lagos. We had Gombe United, NPA and Enugu Rangers to beat and we did that in style, winning all games to lift our maiden NPFL title, thereby opening the door for more victories.
In 2007, we played in the Super Four hosted at the Teslim Balogun Stadium and we beat Wikki Tourists, Enugu Rangers and got a draw with Gombe United to win the league.
We also lifted our second Federation Cup title in Lagos after a 1-0 victory over Sharks of Port Harcourt at the Teslim Balogun Stadium.
In 2013, we played one of the most dramatic GA Cup finals in its modern history after a thrilling 5-4 victory over Warri Wolves at the Teslim Balogun Stadium. Bright Esieme cancelled Musa Najare’s goal, Joseph Osadieye put Wolves ahead again before Ugwu Uwadiegwu’s sublime freekick restored parity for us. The game went into penalties which we won 5-4.
In 2014, we beat Dolphins in Lagos to win our fourth FA Cup title. Goals from Mfon Udoh ND Chinonso Okonkwo sealed the win for the Elephants.
In 2015, we lifted our 7th league title in Lagos after having already won it in Aba due to the 0-0 draw with Warri Wolves in Aba. We drew with Sunshine Stars in Lagos and lifted the trophy.
In 2019, we lifted our 8th NPFL title at the Agege Stadium after an impressive Super six tournament.
The most recent memory we have is our 9th title at the Onikan Stadium which we won in 2023.
We return to Lagos and Onikan precisely, where we won our last NPFL title two years ago. The city has been a fertile ground for us. Hence, the game on Sunday is a “must watch.”
