ELEPHANT CHARGE CONTINUES, BUT DEUTSCH SOUNDS NOTE OF CAUTION
Head Coach Emmanuel Deutsch has expressed excitement over Enyimba’s emphatic 3-0 win against Katsina United, but cautioned ‘it’s not yet over’ as the club continues to push for a strong finish this season.
Veteran forward Stanley Dimgba, Chidera Michael and substitute Wonah Williams were all on target as the People’s Elephant thrashed the Changi Boys in a Matchday 34 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) tie in Aba, and moved up to 12th on the standings, with 43pts to ease their relegation worries.
Speaking after the match, the former Abia Warriors gaffer, however, noted that it’s not yet time for celebration.
“I’m very happy with the win; I am happy for the result but it’s not yet over because we still have four matches till the end of the season,” the Cameroonian tactician stated.
“We have moved up a bit, but we shouldn’t relax because we won this match (against Katsina United). We should continue fighting because it is not over yet.”
On his goalkeeper Kelvin Ogunga, who saved a penalty in the match and the overall performance of the 2-time African champions, Deutsch added: “The goalkeeper did his job by saving a penalty, the coach did his job and the players who scored the goals also did their job.
“The team showed character today (Sunday) on the field of play, and if we continue like this in the remaining matches, we can get something.
“We lost concentration at some moments in the game which is normal in football. You can’t condemn players all the time. We all make mistakes, but the good thing is that the fans and management are all happy because of the result.”
Enyimba will next travel to Enugu for a date with Rangers International in an Oriental derby on Sunday in a Matchday 35 clash.
