Adiele holding mixed feelings after Champions League debut
Eriugo Adiele is grateful to have a Champions League cap under his belt, but feels disappointed that the Enyimba could not advance to the next round of the competition.
The young forward was a second half substitute as Enyimba surged forward in search of a goal in Sunday’s preliminary round fixture against Al Ahli Benghazi, but his introduction could not yield the needed breakthrough as the Libyan side stayed tight to eliminate the People’s Elephant from the competition
Eriugo recounted his mixed feelings in an interview with Enyimbafc.net:
“This time last year, if anyone had told me that I would be playing in the Champions League by now, I would not have believed. So I am very happy about the progress that I am making. It started with making my first NPFL appearance in March and now it is the Champions League. That is why I am very grateful to the coaches for believing in me.
“But the sad thing is that I could not really celebrate my Champions League debut because of the result. We knew that we needed a win and we gave everything, but we just could not get the goal.
“I would have wanted to play more Champions League matches this season, but that is no longer possible and I feel very disappointed”
