Eguma optimistic ahead of Zamalek clash

Head coach Stanley Eguma believes there’s still everything to play for when his side faces Group D winners Zamalek in their final match of the pool in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup on Sunday in Cairo.

Currently placed 3rd in the group with 5 points from as many games, the 2-time African champions will need a win against defending champions Zamalek and also hope bottom-placed Black Bulls of Mozambique secure a victory against 2nd placed Al Masry in Egypt also on Sunday, to advance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

Eguma’s men missed the chance of going second in Group D following a disappointing draw at home against Al Masry a week ago.

Speaking before Enyimba’s departure to Egypt, the experienced tactician expressed optimism on his team’s chances of winning, believing the result elsewhere will favour the People’s Elephant.

“For me, I think it is not the end of the competition,” he said. “We still have the next game against Zamalek) to play. It’s a game of football, you can never tell.

“If Al Masry can come to Uyo and play the game of their lives, we can go to Egypt and get something better. And who knows what will be the outcome of the other game.

“I think we are still optimistic. It is not over until it is over.”
