Finidi calls for improvement ahead of Wikki clash
Finidi George has called for overall improvement in his squad ahead of the week 19 NPFL fixture against Wikki Tourists in Bauchi today.
The former Ajax and Real Betis star expects his charges to improve on the performance that only resulted in a 1-1 draw – their third stalemate at home this season – by visiting Plateau United last weekend.
Striker Victor Mbaoma had put the People’s Elephant ahead in the 28th minute, with his 5th league goal of the campaign, before Austin Opara restored parity for second-placed Platea United with 18 minutes left to stretch Plateau’s unbeaten run to 10 matches this season.
The draw saw Enyimba – record winners of the NPFL with 8 titles – drop to 9th spot on the standings, with 25 points from 18 matches, 14 points behind table-toppers Rivers United, ahead of their Week 19 encounter with Wikki Tourists.
Despite watching his players miss numerous scoring chances lately, the former Super Eagles winger George refused to blame any of them for the team’s poor results.
“When the results are not coming, I think it’s the fault of everybody – the coaching staff, the players,” the 50-year-old former Ipswich Town star admitted.
“We just have to be better. So, no excuses. I think we have a team that should be able to do better. No excuses; when you don’t win games, you have to come down to reality and see what and what you can do to fix the problem.
“They (the players) are human beings. For me, I would want to see how to change this and turn things around. It’s not easy, the pressure is mounting.
“We have to see how we can get a good result in Bauchi and things would calm down.”
