FINIDI, IZUOGU OPTIMISTIC OF GOOD RESULT AGAINST PILLARS

Head coach Finidi George and midfielder Chibueze Izuogu are both confident Enyimba will not come out of their Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) clash with Kano Pillars on Sunday empty-handed.

In what has been dubbed the ‘Zobia’ derby in recent times, the People’s Elephant face the Sai Masu Gida at the Sani Abacha stadium in a potentially-explosive NPFL encounter, with both teams desperately in need of points.

Champions Enyimba are placed 16th on the log, with 7pts from 4 matches (with 3 games in hand), while Pillars occupy the 11th position, with 9pts, having played the full 7 matches so far.

Speaking ahead of the match, Finidi, who is also the assistant coach of the Super Eagles, said his side are in Kano to, at least, pick a point.

“We came here for a good result,” the gaffer said. “We’ll see how we can get the best result – to win or not to lose. That’s our focus for this season.

“We want to see how we can get a victory against Kano Pillars, but if that is not possible, we’ll go home not losing. At least, we must go home with something.”

On his part, Izuogu, who admitted it will be a tough clash, however, remains optimistic the 2-time African champions will triumph over Pillars in Kano.

“We know it is not going to be an easy match, we have it on the back of our mind,” he stated.

“We have prepared very well for this match. Our mindset and mentality is tough. We are going to go all out.

The youngster added: “I’m very happy, this is my first Zobia derby. I’m going all out and we are doing all our best to get the maximum three points in Kano.”
