“I couldn’t hold myself”: Kalu explains reason behind emotional goal celebration
Samuel Kalu has explained the reason behind the emotional celebration after he opened the scoring in Saturday’s fixture against Lobi Stars.
Kalu appeared to be in tears as he covered his face and fell to the ground when he broke the deadlock against the stubborn opponents to register his first NPFL goal for Enyimba.
Squeezed about his rather unconventional celebration, the forward narrated how he broke into years because of the support her enjoyed from good family during his goal-drought.
“It was an emotional moment for me. I was very grateful to God to get my first league of the season because getting almost to the end of the season without scoring, I was very worried. Last season I scored nine goals so I was wondering what was going wrong this season.
“I use to call my mum everyday too complain to her, and she would always encourage me. Before that match, she prayed all through the night and didn’t sleep. She called me in the morning and told me that I would score that day, that’s why I couldn’t hold myself when I score. I had to cry.”
Kalu further revealed how excitedly he celebrated the goal with his mum after the game.
“The moment I picked up my phone after the game, I met some missed called from my mum. I had to call her back and she was very happy. She told me she was following the game and was happy to see my name on the score sheet.
“Right now I feel relieved and confident to play. My mum has also told me that my first goal has opened the door for many more goals, and I believe it.”
