Next Champions League Will be Special in Many Ways – Ogbonnaya

Nelson Ogbonnaya expects Covid-19 precautionary measures to cause changes to the 2020/21 CAF Champions League, but believes such modifications will only make it stand out from other editions.

Implementation of Covid-19 protocols has brought changes to football the world over, and CAF has already adopted a new format for the conclusion of the current edition of its club competitions, as semifinal matches will now be played over single legs at neutral venues and without fans.

It has been announced that the 2020/21 edition will begin three weeks after the conclusion of the current campaign, and Ogbonnaya, one of Enyimba’s most tested legs, believes the team would be ready to make the adjustments that will be required for the health and safety of all.

“Of course we can’t expect things to be as before. We’ve played in this competition many times but you expect this to be different since everyone is taking precautions. I can’t say what changes will be made but whatever it is, I know it will make the competition special in many ways.

“The most important thing for me is that we will be able to play football again. That in itself is a victory. I know the fans may not come into the stadium at the beginning, but we will always play as if they are there. It will be all about them.”
