Odeh fired up for showdown against former club

Left-back Paul Odeh says he is ‘so excited’ about the prospect of facing his former club Wikki Tourists on Sunday, and noted it would be an emotional occasion if he is selected for the encounter.

Enyimba hosts the Bauchi-based side in a Matchday 13 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) tie in Aba, hoping to continue their recent impressive form.

Nonetheless, ahead of the clash, the 24-year-old attack-minded defender stated that he would give his ‘best’ against his former employers, despite still having some friends there.

“I am so excited about this fixture because Wikki Tourists was my former team,” the erstwhile Rivers United defender told Enyimbafc.net. “It’s an exciting encounter for me,

“If called upon to play, I will give my best for Enyimba Int’l FC – that is where I am now. Though it is going to be a mix of emotion because I have my friends there as well.

“But this (Enyimba) is where I work now, and I am going to give my 100% best if called upon to feature against Wikki Tourists.”

After an impressive 2-0 home win against Kano Pillars a fortnight ago, the People’s Elephant were held to a barren draw by Abia Warriors in Umuahia.

Ahead of the battle of two Elephants, the former Kwara United and Nasarawa United star said the record 9-time NPFL champions have prepared very well, and are determined to return to winning ways on Sunday.

“The boys have really prepared; everybody gave their best to see that we get the team back to winning ways,” he said. “A lot of work has been put in during the week, and we are optimistic that come Sunday, we’re going to get the result we desire.”

Odeh also called on the teeming Enyimba fans to show the team great support on Sunday, as they try to return to the continent.

He said: “We want to urge the fans, we want to urge everybody supporting the team to come out in their numbers on Sunday and beyond.

“All hands should be on deck, so we can move the team to where it belongs – which is the continent.

“This season is going to be a wonderful one. As you can see, we’re all putting in the work, and everybody is pushing to see that at the end of the season, we get a continental ticket.

“And we hope that as we work hard towards achieving that, everything is going to turn out the way we want it.”
