Somiari Alalibo’s fierce free kick handed Enyimba a 3-2 win against Akwa United in the Nigeria Premier Football League on Sunday.
Alalibo’s pile-driver turned to be the decider in a dramatic fixture at the Enyimba Stadium which saw Enyimba’s quick-fire two-goal lead cancelled by a resurgent Akwa United early in the second half.
Innocent Gabriel marked his home debut by scoring the opener with a low drive in the 13th minute, before Chijioke Mbaoma doubled it two minutes later to give the hosts a firm grip.
The visitors however strawed their way back with Kufre Ebong halving the deficit in first half added time before David Philip equalised with a free kick midway through the second half.
Parity did not last for long, though, as Alalibo drilled his free kick through a space in the wall to ensure that Enyimba sealed their first win of the season.
