Awazie confident ahead of El Kanemi clash

Ekene Awazie is confident that his team will overcome Elkanemi Warriors in their upcoming NPFL matchday 28 showdown at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, on Sunday.

“We’re fully focused and determined to secure maximum points,” Awazie declared in an exclusive interview with Enyimba Media. “We need to get back to our normal position, which is back to the continent. That is where Enyimba belongs, and we are all working hard to make it happen”.

Awazie believes the squad is hitting top gear at the right time, despite an inconsistent run this season. He emphasized the players’ collective determination to get back to the top. The last time both sides clashed in the league, Usman Abbas’ first-half goal in Maiduguri separated them, handing Elkanemi Warriors a narrow 1-0 victory. However, history favors Enyimba, who have won six of their last 14 competitive encounters against the Maiduguri-based side, drawing four and losing four.

With four league goals to his name this season, Awazie has been instrumental in Enyimba’s campaign. He remains focused on the bigger picture—team success over individual accolades. “It’s nice to help the team, but it’s not an individual effort—it’s a team effort,” he stressed. “I’m happy to contribute with goals, and I hope to score more and help return the team to where we belong, which is continental football”.

Under Stanley Eguma’s tactical guidance, Enyimba is beginning to show signs of their usual dominance. With Sunday’s clash crucial in their quest for a CAF Champions League or CAF Confederation Cup spot next season, the Aba giants are leaving no stone unturned. Awazie’s optimism reflects the mood within the squad—one of hunger, determination, and the desire to restore Enyimba FC as a true powerhouse of African football.
