Diambars FC: What you need to know about our second preliminary round opponent
Enyimba has been handed a tricky draw in the first round of the 2021/2022 Total Energies CAF Confederation Cup. The two-time African champions who were drawn bye in the first preliminary round will face Senegalese club, Diambars FC de Saly over two legs in the first round of the competition.
Enyimba were quarterfinalists in last season’s tournament, and ahead of the new campaign, here are a few facts about our second preliminary round opponents, Diambars FC.
Diambars FC was founded in 2003 by Jean-Marc Adjovi-Boco with Bernard Lama, Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira and the investor Saer Seck.
The team is based in the city of Saly at the Diambars sport-studies institute, and plays its home matches at the 2000 capacity Stade Fodé Wade.
Diambars FC were Senegal Premier League Champions in 2013 and have only made a solitary appearance in CAF club competitions, stretching back to 2014, when they faced ASFA Yennenga of Burkina Faso in the preliminary rounds of the CAF Champions League.
Diambars booked a first round ticket in the competition after beating Guinean side Wakirya 3-0 in Saly in a one-legged game.
However, the first leg, second preliminary round tie will be played on October 16 in Saly, and Enyimba will host the reverse fixture in Aba on October 23.
