Ekwutoziam confident of victory against Rivers United in ‘big game’

Enyimba midfielder Eze Ekwutoziam is confident the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) defending champions will grab the maximum points at stake against Rivers United in Aba on Sunday.

Two-time African champions Enyimba confront CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finalists in a Match Day 34 NPFL fixture, knowing a win could take them to within one point of table-toppers Rangers International of Enugu.

Matches between the two immediate past league champions are usually keenly-contested and spectacular, and Rivers United defeated Enyimba 2-0 in Port Harcourt in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash in Aba, the versatile midfielder stated that the People’s Elephant are physically and mentally ready to dismantle the Pride of Rivers.

“It’s a big game against Rivers United on Sunday, and we all know what is at stake,” the 22-year-old stated.

“We won’t allow our opponents to take the game to us. It’s a must-win game for us. Looking at the log, we know how important it is for us to win. So, we are all coming out for the win.

“This is Enyimba! Every game counts, and we are still on the mission of trying to retain our title. No hope is lost.

“We believe and we are ready. Definitely, we’re going to get all 3 points against Rivers United on Sunday.

On his team’s readiness, he added: “The mentality towards training is great, and we’re ready to go.”

Enyimba – record 9-time NPFL champions – currently sit 2nd of the standings, with 56 points from 33 matches, just 4 points behind leaders Rangers, who face Sporting Lagos away on Sunday.
