Enyimba edge Lobi Stars to end winless streak

Enyimba defeated Lobi Stars 1-0 away from home in the Nigeria Premier Football League on Monday to end a run of 5 matches without a win in all competitions.

The People’s Elephant last won a game against Nasarawa United in Aba on 8 January – nearly a month ago.

However, Ifeanyi Ihemekele’s 40th minute effort handed the record NPFL champions maximum points to give the team a huge relief.

Attempts by Lobi Stars to draw level and win the encounter in Bauchi proved abortive, as the Enyimba rear-guard stood their ground with solid defending.

The win moved Stanley Eguma’s side to 8th spot from 11th on the NPFL table, with 31pts from 21 matches, still with a game in hand.

The 2-time African champions will next face relegation-threatened Akwa United in Uyo on Sunday before returning to Aba to host Rivers United on 16 February in a potentially explosive clash.
