ENYIMBA ENSURE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE PROGRESSION WITH RAHIMO DRAW
Enyimba have advanced to the first round of the CAF Champions League despite being held to a 1-1 draw by Rahimo FC at the Enyimba Stadium on Sunday evening.
Holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg in Ouagadougou last week, The People’s Elephant had to avoid defeat to qualify, but it did not come without a scare as Rahimo put up a late fight in a spirited performance in Aba.
Austin Oladapo gave the Nigerian Champions the lead on the half-hour with a trademark long-range effort, capitalizing on an imperfect clearance to volley beyond the grips of the impressive Moussa Traore.
The visitors, however, threw themselves back into contention with s leveler fifteen minutes later, with substitute Pape Ware scoring after a beautiful solo run.
Rahimo sent more numbers forward in search of what could have been their winner, but the hosts never failed to threaten on the break with Mbaoma and Olisema both coming close.
Left-back Imo Obot was given the marching order in the latter stages, but Fatai Osho’s side stayed strong to advance at the expense of the Burkinabes for the second consecutive season.
Sudanese side Al Merrikh are Enyimba’s first-round opponents, with the first leg of the fixture holding in Omdurman on December 23.
