Finidi: I see more positives than negatives
Finidi George has maintained a positive outlook despite Enyimba’s 3-4 win against Al Ahly Benghazi at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium on Sunday.
The People’s Elephant held on until almost the end but were undone by Hamadi Gadallah’s stoppage time goal which handed Ahly a slender first leg advantage.
Speaking after a highly dramatic game which saw Enyimba score three vital away goals, Finidi was full of praises for his team for a spirited performance.
“We are sad that we lost the game after a great performance from the boys. It could have easily ended in a draw but for that late goal we conceded.
“I must commend the players for putting up a great fight against a very formidable home team. The crowd was also intimidating but our players did not let that affect them.
“Of course, there are areas that we must improve upon, but looking at the game generally, I see more positives than negatives.
Ahead of the return fixture in Aba on August 27, Finidi said, “In Aba it’s going to be a different ball game. We will approach the game differently and hopefully we will win it.
“We know it’s not going to be easy but I think the players know what’s at stake and having played this well here (in Benghazi), going back to Aba with our home support, it’s going to be different and hopefully we are going to win it.”
