FINIDI OPTIMISTIC OF GOOD OUTING AGAINST WYDAD IN CASABLANCA

Head Coach Finidi George says he is ‘optimistic’ the 2-time African champions will put up a good fight when they confront Moroccan giants Wydad Casablanca in the second leg of their African Football League (AFL) quarter-final fixture.

Despite losing 1-0 to Wydad in Uyo on Sunday in the first leg, the former Super Eagles winger expressed satisfaction in the second half performance of his team, in addition to the many chances they created in the encounter.

Ahead of Wednesday’s reverse fixture in the inaugural money-spinning competition, the former Real Betis and Ajax star believes the record 9-time Nigerian champions can upset the Moroccan outfit if they convert their chances.

“It’s unfortunate we couldn’t score in the first leg, football is all about goalscoring,” Finidi George said after the loss to Wydad. “If we had scored, I think the overall result would have been different.”

“We have the second leg on Wednesday. Inasmuch as we want to win, I’m happy that we lost 1-0. It gives us another opportunity to go back there and see if we can (win).

“If we have the same opportunities that we got here (Uyo), if we can take one or two, it’s going to be a different ball game.I am optimistic about the second leg.”
