Late strikes hand Gombe United win against Enyimba

Enyimba began their NPFL title defence with a 0-2 loss to Gombe United on Sunday evening.

Gombe United struck at the ends of both halves to deny Enyimba any portion of the spoils in the week 2 fixture at the Gombe Stadium, Pantami.

Enyimba enjoyed good spells and created good moments, with Anthony Okachi, Daniel Daga and Joseph Atule coming close, but it was the hosts that eventually broke the deadlock just before the break with Chijioke Alaekwe diverting a free kick from the right beyond the Enyimba goalkeeper, Djeri Bassa.

The hosts sealed their win late in the day, Ahmed Jimoh driving home a powerful free kick deep into second half stoppage.
