Mbaoma hits brace in Enyimba’s trouncing of Pillars
Victor Mbaoma reached double digits of NPFL goals as his brace set Enyimba to a 4-0 trouncing of Kano Pillars at Enyimba Stadium on Thursday.
The forward’s terrifying form has seen him net four goals in his last three outings, bringing his season’s tally to twelve in all competitions.
Emeka Obioma and Godwin Emmanuel were the other scorers as the People’s Elephant ran riot against Sai Masu Gida to record their widest home win in over half a decade.
Enyimba’s all-attacking approach saw Samuel Stone and Sadiq Abubakar come close in the early moments as the People’s Elephant marauded their visitors with a barrage of onslaughts. It, however, took the hosts until the half hour to find a breakthrough as Mbaoma finished with a stylish back heel following a powerful delivery from Bilal Yakubu.
Despite coming out of their shells after falling behind, Pillars did little more than keep midfield possession as their only threatening moment came in the closing stages of the first half when wingback Abdullahi Ali inspired a move from the right.
Finidi George’s side always looked the likelier to score the second, and eventually did – albeit it out of an outright act of charity. Sadiq Abubakar’s cross from the right appeared to have been well-caught by Enaholo, only for the ball to slip out of the keeper’s hands for Mbaoma to tap into an empty net.
The visitors were again torn apart ten minutes later when Obioma beat the offside trap to chip Cyril Olisema’s pass over Joshua Enaholo for Enyimba’s third.
Godwin Emmanuel drew curtains on the rout in added time when Enaholo saved what could have been Mbaoma’s hat trick, only for the substitute to hit home the rebound from five yards.
