Mbaoma’s fires Enyimba back on track

Enyimba recovered from the midweek loss to Remo Stars to beat Sunshine Stars 1-0 at the Enyimba Stadium on Saturday.

Chijioke Mbaoma converted from the spot late in the first half to ensure a third win in four outings and move the People’s Elephant within two points of table toppers, Doma United.

It was not exactly among their high-level performances, as the defending champions failed to find their rhythm in a seemingly frustrating half, until a moment of brilliance so George beat his marker in the box, only to be hacked down for a penalty.

Mbaoma took no chances with the kick, sending the keeper the wrong way to record his fourth league goal of the season.

Enyimba had a call for another penalty late but the referee urged play to proceed after Stephen Chukwude looked to have been hacked down in the box.
