Akanni stamps ‘do-or-die’ label on Plateau United clash
Midfielder Elijah Akanni has labelled Enyimba’s final Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) game of the season against Plateau United ‘do-or-die’.
The 2-time African champions host the Peace Boys on Sunday at the Enyimba International stadium, which is expected to be packed to the brim, knowing a win will guarantee, at least, a CAF Confederation Cup spot next season.
Coach Yemi Daniel’s side can still qualify for the CAF Champions League if they beat Plateau United, and Remo Stars fail to win at home against Katsina United.
“It is a very important game for us, and it is the last match of the season as well,” the former MFM star said. “So, it’s a do-or-die game for us against Plateau United.
“We are going to give our best to make sure we win the match and get back to the top where we belong. That will help us in the CAF Champions League next season.”
Record 9-time NPFL champions Enyimba have 60 points from 37 matches in 3rd place, while Plateau United boasts of 58 points in 5th place going into the last Match Day of the season.
