Chilekwu eyes continental glory after ‘conquering’ Nigeria

Chigozie Chilekwu feels fulfilled to have won all major laurels in Nigerian football and believes the time is right to raise the bar and set aspirations on triumphing at the continental level.

The leftback showed maturity and class as Enyimba worked through the NPFL Championship Playoff to claim a historic 9th title, starting three of the five matches of the series.

Chilekwu thus added the Nigerian League title to this trophy haul, having previously won the Federation Cup with Akwa United in 2017. He also won the Nigerian Super League in the same year.

Speaking to Enyimbafc.net, the defender opened up on how much Enyimba’s 9th league crown meant to him.

“Winning the league means so much to me because the league was the only silverware that was missing from my collection.”

“That is why I feel very fulfilled and satisfied because with the league, I have now conquered club football in Nigeria. I won the Federation Cup when I was with Akwa United, and also won the Super Cup when we played against Enyimba (laughs). So, I have won it all in Nigeria.

“But that does not mean that I will relent because there are still many more things that I can achieve. For instance, I want to win continental titles, and that requires a lot of hard work. I also want to play for the national team because that has been one of my football dreams – playing for three national team.”
