EKWUTOZIAM GRABS MOTM AWARD IN ABIA DERBY

Enyimba utility player Eze Ekwutoziam has been deservedly named the Infinix Man-of-the-Match in Sunday’s Abia Derby against neighbours Abia Warriors in Aba.

Ekwutoziam set the reigning Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions on their way to 2-1 win with a beautiful drive outside the box in the 39th minute – his first goal in the NPFL this season – before youngster Chidiebere Nnachi added a second for the People’s Elephant on the hour mark, rendering Augustine Njoku’s late goal for Warriors a mere consolation.

Following his all-round performance in the encounter, the 21-year-old versatile player was chosen as the Most Valuable Player by journalists, carting home an Infinix phone for his effort.

Speaking after receiving the award, the midfield gem said it was a privilege to be given such recognition in the Abia Derby, adding he didn’t plan for it.

“I didn’t have it in my mind to be Man-of-the-Match before the game,” he disclosed.

“All I know is that I just have to go there and play my best to help the team win.

“For the Man-of-the-Match award, I will say it is an individual honour. I’m privileged also to win it, and I thank Infinix Nigeria for this great platform.”

On his first NPFL goal this season, Ekwutoziam added: “It’s a long-awaited goal and it came in a wonderful way – in a derby against our rivals.

“It’s a privilege for me. I really have to thank the team, the players who were involved in the match. Without them it won’t be possible.”
