“IT WAS A GOOD GAME” – FINIDI ON ABIA DERBY WIN

Head Coach Finidi George has described Enyimba’s 2-1 win against Abia Warriors in the NPFL as a ‘good game,’ although the gaffer was angry his boys didn’t win by a wider margin.

In a keenly contested Abia Derby in Aba on Sunday, goals from Eze Ekwutoziam, who was named the Infinix Man-of-the-Match, and Chidiebere Nnachi helped the 2-time African champions grab maximum points before an impressive crowd at the Enyimba stadium.

However, the former Super Eagles winger was not satisfied his team wasted a lot of scoring chances and were made to defend desperately towards the end of the match.

“I think it was a good game,” the 52-year-old, who is also Super Eagles assistant coach, said. “At the beginning of the match, in the first 20, 25 minutes, we had a couple of chances we could have converted, but that didn’t happen.

“But I think my team did well. I am quite happy with the overall performance, but I was not happy about the last 7 minutes of the match. It was as if we were inviting them to come and score. I’ve spoken to my players and that will not happen again.

“In this league we need goals, and in a match like this that the opportunity came for us to have scored more goals, we didn’t take them. At the end of the game, they (Abia Warriors) kept fighting and got that goal.

“I’m not happy about the last 5, 7 minutes, but overall, it was a good game for the spectators, and I think we deserve to win. That’s what we did.”

The win moved Enyimba a place up on the NPFL log to 4th, with 22 points from 12 matches, still with an outstanding match.
