Enyimba to battle Moroccan giants in African Football League
Enyimba have been drawn to face Wydad Athletic Club in the brand new flagship competition of African club football, the African Football League.
At the draws ceremony held in Cairo on Saturday, the People’s Elephant where paired against the Moroccan giants in the third quarterfinal.
The first leg will be played at the God’swill Akpabio International Stadium on October 22, followed by the return fixture in Casablanca three days later.
Aggregate winners of the tie will face winners of the second quarterfinal between Tunisian powerhouse Esperance SC and former African Champions, TP Mazembe in the semifinal.
Although the AFL has been structured to be a 24-team tournament, the Confederation of African Football has picked only eight teams drawn from the three regions of the continent to feature in this pilot edition.
Consequently, this year’s edition will begin at the quarterfinal stage with matches of each round to be played on home and away basis.
