Finidi George Hails Match-Winner Omoyele

Enyimba coach Finidi George has applauded striker Tosin Omoyele who scored the winner as the People’s Elephants pipped champions Akwa United 1-0 in a re-arranged Match Day 7 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) encounter in Aba on Wednesday.

In what was only his second  league game for the record 8-time NPFL champions this season – no thanks to Covid-19 and family engagements – the former Plateau United goal poacher guaranteed Enyimba maximum points, tapping in an Imo Obot low cross after 26 minutes.

The win lifted Finidi George’s side to 4th on the standings, with 13 points from 8 matches, 5 points behind table-toppers Rivers United (18pts).

Speaking after the match, the former Super Eagles winger disclosed that Omoyele is yet to hit full fitness despite his performance against the Promise Keepers, but remains optimistic he will be physically ready for the club’s home game on Saturday against Katsina United.

“He is a very important player,” the 50-year-old former Ajax and Real Mallorca star told www.enyimbafc.net. “As it stands now, he’s not even 100% (fit). You can see his fitness level is not 100%.

“With all the problems he had; the Covid-19 and the rest, I think he is coming back. I’m happy. He had a decent game.

“We’ll see how to get him rest very well, even (Philip) Ozor as well, and see if they can go on Saturday.”

Omoyele will hope to consolidate on his match-winning showing against Akwa United if he is selected to play on Saturday.

  1. Tosin my man.
Despite his father’s death, he still delivers.
