Match report: Enyimba 1-0 Akwa United

Tosin Omoyele was on target as Enyimba edged Akwa United 1-0 at the Enyimba Stadium on Wednesday evening.

Omoyele, making only his second league appearance this term after a spell on the sidelines, was at the receiving end of Imo Obot’s low cross to finish into the far post.

Before eventually finding what turned to be the decisive goal, the hosts asserted authority, tearing through the opposition in an early surge but were repeatedly held back by indecisive finishing.

Emeka Obioma got behind Akwa United’s backline and drove clear on goal but looked indecisive as he attempted to release Omoyele.

Tosin Omoyele also blew a chance before Samuel Kalu failed to keep it on target after Fatai Abdullahi’s through pass.

Under the cosh for majority of the half, the visitors sprang to life in its closing stages with Ubong Friday’s freekick against the bar quickly followed by another effort over the top.

The restart was brought alive by Friday’s third attempt on the day as United wore an aggressive look.  Stephen Chukwude also came close before Samuel Kalu struck the base of the upright at the other end.

Ekene Awazie and substitute Victor Mbaoma also made attempts as Enyimba edged what turned out to be an end-to-end dwell towards the end.
