FINIDI LOOKING TO CONSOLIDATE ON TORNADOES DRAW AGAINST KWARA UTD

Head Coach Finidi George says he is ‘quite optimistic’ of a home win against Kwara United to consolidate on Wednesday’s draw with Niger Tornadoes in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

The 2-time African champions held Tornadoes to a goalless draw in Kaduna in midweek to the delight of the former Super Eagles star, who had hoped for a win before the encounter.

Ahead of Sunday’s clash with the Harmony Boys in Aba, the ex-Ajax and Ipswich Town winger is now hopeful of building on their last result with a much-needed win.

“In the first place, I am happy with the result,” the gaffer said of the last game against Tornadoes. “Inasmuch as we wanted to win, I think not losing will really help my players – it will really push them.

“We will build on the result and try to be better. We are playing the next match (against Kwara United) at home and if we win that one, I think it will put us in a better place, and definitely, the mentality is going to be stronger.

“I’m quite optimistic that we will win at home, and everything will normalize and we will move on. I’m looking forward to the next match.”

Desperately in need of points, the reigning NPFL champions currently occupy the 19th spot on the standings with just 4 points from 3 matches, though with 3 outstanding games.
