Mbaoma scores as Enyimba beat Kwara United in Aba

Chijioke Mbaoma’s first half penalty earned Enyimba a 1-0 win against Kwara United at the Enyimba Stadium on Sunday.

Mbaoma struck from the spot in first half added time to ensure that Finidi George’s men consolidated on the draw at Niger Tornadoes in midweek.

Enyimba bossed possession in what was a one-sided first half, but lacked coherence in the final third, resulting to only a few half chances.

The breakthrough however came just before the break when Chidiebere Nnachi was fouled inside the box after driving in from the right, and Mbaoma was on hand to dispatch the resultant kick.

The visitors came out of their shells after the break, coming toe-to-toe against their opponents and missed the chance to draw level with a free header early in the second half.

Joseph Atule had the chance to double Enyimba’s lead when Chigozie Chilekwu played him through with a brilliant pass, but the forward’s effort was easily gathered by the keeper.

Elijah Akanni was brought on in the latter stages to mark his return after a lengthy layoff, and the midfielder helped to steady the ship as the People’s Elephant coasted home to a vital win.
