Kwara United 1-2 Enyimba: Mbaoma hits double in vital away win
Chijioke Mbaoma’s brace handed Enyimba a 2-1 win against Kwara United in Akure on Sunday as the People’s Elephant returned to the top two in group A.
The forward’s opener was struck out by Samad Kadiri’s penalty, but the Enyimba number 15 won the day with a predatory strike with the game approaching its end.
In a feisty opening of unmasked intent, Enyimba peppered the opponents’ goal with Imo Obot and Chibuike Nwaiwu coming close. Sadiq Abubakar also combined with Mbaoma on the right, but the latter’s cutback was too heavy for the arriving Emeka Obioma.
The breakthrough came just before the half-hour when Obot, looking lively in his makeshift role on the left of midfield, tricked his way into the box to cut back for Mbaoma who tapped into the far post.
The joy was short-lived, though, as Samad Kadiri pelted a penalty into the bottom corner after Pascal Eze handled the ball in the box.
But Mbaoma got the visitors back in front with twelve minutes left when he pounced a communication breakdown at Kwara United’s rear to smash into a yawning net.
Substitute Adiele Eriugo found the net late on but the flag went up against him to rule it out.
