Match Report: Nasarawa United 2-1 Enyimba
Enyimba were denied a point as Shamassu Mohammed’s added time goal handed Nasarawa United a 2-1 win at the Lafia City Stadium.
The People’s Elephant had stepped into the lead when Victor Mbaoma scored his first league goal this term, but Tolulope Oluwole’s leveller and Mohammed’s last minute finish completed a late comeback for the hosts.
Chances to both sides in the opening minutes set the ground for what would be an enthralling end-to-end contest that was never short of goal-mouth action and tension.
Emeka Obioma was in the box to cause a threat from Emmanuel Ampiah’s cross before Lawal Shehu’s header was held by Sabirou Bassa at the other end
Victor Mbaoma shot the visitors into the lead in the thirteenth minute when he was the fastest to react to a goalkeeping spill following Chigozie Obasi’s thunderous strike.
The hosts responded well enough, drawing level five minutes later through Tolulope Oluwole’s brilliant effort on the turn.
Djeri Sabirou Bassa kept scores level with two sharp saves before Finidi George’s men went on a spell of ceaseless onslaughts.
Obioma muscled himself onto a long ball and saw his effort bounce off the underside of the bar, before blasting over the top from a rebound minutes later.
Much unlike the case of the first half, clear cut chances were few and far between after the restart, although Austin Oladapo and Samuel Kalu threatened with long range tries.
The game was ultimately decided in the closing stages when substitute Shamassu Mohammed finished with an easy tap after being set up by Dauda Maigishiri.
