Obioma bags another brace as Enyimba sweep past Shooting Stars

Chukwuemeka Obioma took off from where he left off, netting his sixth and seventh goals of the season to power Enyimba to a 2-0 win against Shooting Stars at the Enyimba Stadium on Wednesday.

The forward scored at either end of the first half to ensure his third consecutive brace on home turf as well as another comfortable win for Enyimba who have now bagged nine points from their last three fixtures.

It was a game that was expected to deliver quality, and it was barely underway when Obioma did exactly as he had done in the last two fixtures at the Enyimba Stadium – shoot the hosts into the lead. The forward stayed at the far post to head Bilal Yakubu’s freekick past Bamidele Adeniyi with only seventy seconds played.

It was a start Finidi George’s men capitalised on to exert control over proceedings, albeit without many clear cut chances. Ekene Awazie, however, wriggled his way inside the box after the half-hour, only to smash his strike into the side-netting.

Obioma would get his brace in first half added time with a move and finish that aptly bared his confidence gauge – breaking free from his markers to get played in by Ekene Awazie before going round the keeper to roll the ball across the line.

Sadiq Abubakar and substitute Somiari Alalibo forced good saves from the keeper in the second half, while Obioma’s header went over the top after a good delivery from Eze Ekwutoziam on the right.

John Noble preserved Enyimba’s clean sheet on home turf when he saved from Ayo Adejubu after the visitors marauded with a swift counter-attacking move in the closing stage.
