President Federation Cup: 10-Man Enyimba Scale One Rocket Hurdle For Round of 16 Place

In a thrilling encounter at the Sampson Siasia Stadium, Yenagoa, Enyimba FC clashed with FC One Rocket in the Round of 32 of the President Federation Cup. The match ignited with fervor as both teams showcased their determination to advance in the prestigious tournament.

Enyimba FC, known for their attacking prowess, dominated the early stages of the game with swift passes and calculated movements. Their efforts paid off in the 39th minute when Chijioke Mbaoma broke the deadlock for the People’s Elephant with a sublime header following an assist from Murphy Ndukwu who was clinical all throughout the game.

However, FC One Rocket refused to back down. Despite mounting pressure, they struggled to find an equalizer against a resolute Enyimba defense. The match took an unexpected turn in the 65th minute when goalkeeper Ani Ozoemena was initially shown a yellow card after handling the ball with his chest outside the box. However, FC One Rocket’s coach vehemently protested the decision and ordered his players out of the pitch in protest.

The referee, under pressure from the protest, reevaluated the situation and rescinded his initial decision, showing Ani Ozoemena a red card instead. With Ani sent off, Enyimba FC faced a daunting challenge to preserve their lead.

Despite being reduced to ten men, Enyimba FC displayed remarkable resilience, with their outfield players rallying to protect their slim advantage. FC One Rocket intensified their attacks in search of an equalizer, but Enyimba’s defense held firm.

The match ended with Enyimba FC securing a narrow 1-0 victory, thanks to Mbaoma’s well-taken goal and their resilient defense, even in the face of adversity.

After the match, Chijioke Mbaoma expressed his excitement at being back on the scoresheet and emphasized his commitment to the team’s success, stating, “I feel excited to be back on the scoresheet. I was signed to help the team, and it’s fulfilling to contribute with a goal today.”

The victory sees Enyimba FC progress to the Round of 16 of the President Federation Cup, showcasing their determination to compete at the highest level. While FC One Rocket displayed commendable resilience, they were unable to breach Enyimba’s defense, even with the advantage of an extra man.

Looking ahead, Enyimba FC will now shift her focus to the Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) as they prepare for the Abia derby against Abia Warriors on Sunday in Umuahia. The team will aim to carry the momentum from their President Federation Cup victory into the upcoming league fixture.
