Awazie scores on return as Enyimba clip Bayelsa United in Yenegoa

Enyimba moved within three points of leaders Remo as Stars as they ended the year 2023 with a 2-1 win against Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium on Thursday.

The first half ended with neither team finding a breakthrough despite persistent efforts, but Ekene Awazie came off the bench to score with his first touch if the game in the 65th minute to make a strong claim on his return from injury.

But it took the hosts only seven minutes to get back at par when Israel Consul fired past Olorunleke Ojo to create a edgy final quarter hour.

Chijioke Mbaoma, however, restored Enyimba’s lead with a well-struck penalty with only nine minutes left.

The hosts had a penalty of their own minutes later, but Olorunleke Ojo judged right to keep out Robert Mizo’s kick and ensure a second win on the road for the People’s Elephant this term.
