Match report: Enyimba 1-1 Warri Wolves
Austin Oladapo scored a late equaliser as Enyimba played a 1-1 draw against Warri Wolves at the Enyimba Stadium on Wednesday.
Daniel Chimezie stunned the hosts when he set Wolves ahead with just over a quarter hour left but Oladapo restored parity not too long after.
With Enyimba hoping to reduce the gap from the top of the table and Wolves desperately in need of points to avoid the the drop, the game quickly assumed the tightness that comes with such fixtures, clear cut chances proving hard to record.
Chimezie’s effort from outside the box went over the top in the early stages before goalkeeper Sabirou Bassa Djeri tipped Sunday William’s ball onto the frame.
Despite being far from their flowing best, Enyimba strung some brilliant moments, one resulting to Oladapo’s through ball to Darkwah, who just failed to control.
Oladapo tried with a fierce freekick but it went straight into the keeper’s hands while Orok Gabriel took a tame pop after running across the the box.
Fatai Osho rang the changes just after the break, injecting Farouk Mohammed, Philip Ozor and Tosin Omoyele in a triple switch. It was the visitors that had the first say, though, when impressive centre back Chimezie slotted into the near post from a move he began from Wolves’ half.
Enyimba responded shortly after, Oladapo receiving Victor Mbaoma’s pass before scoring with a composed finish with eleven minutes left.
Farouk had his freekick blocked in the closing stages as Enyimba settled for a disappointing draw at home.
