“We showed lots of character”
Finidi George has hailed his team’s ‘character’ after Enyimba came from behind to beat Rangers International 2-1 in a blockbuster fixture in Aba on Sunday.
Prolific forward Victor Mbaoma scored twice – to take his tally to eight in the league this season – as the People’s Elephant completed a double over the Flying Antelopes, having won the reverse fixture 1-0 in Nnewi earlier in the campaign.
Despite the win, the 2-time African champions remain 7th on the NPFL standings, with 32 points from 22 matches, still 14 points adrift of leaders Rivers United, who face Katsina United on Wednesday.
“We are very happy, we know this is a derby,” the former Super Eagles star said after the match,
“When the game started, we were on the back foot. I think the boys showed a lot of character to come back, equalize and keep pushing till we got that victory.
“So, it’s a happy one for us, but football being what it is, we cannot dwell on this victory. We have to keep preparing for other matches and hope to show this kind of character every time we play.”
